Amazon Dumps Google

Peter Da Vanzo

…for Microsoft. Or, perhaps more tellingly, “Windows Live”.

There’s no official word on this, but Alexa is now powered by Windows Live, taking over from Google, which has provided results in the past. Take a look at the banner over on the right.

Alexa is, of course, owned by Amazon. Google has been making inroads into Amazon’s business with books and shopping, so it’s not unsurprising that Amazon would make such a move. The terms of the deal aren’t available yet, however I’ll update this post when they are made public.

As far as I can tell Amazon’s other search property, A9 is still sporting the Google banner. I wonder how long this will last?

As a side note, Alexa’s biggest mover and shaker is currently…Live.com.

Just checked that out. It must be the only search engine that doesn’t have ThreadWatch.org in the top ten for “threadwatch”.

Not just Alexa Peter, A9.com is now powered by Live Windows Search too : http://www.searchenginejournal.com/?p=3348

Indeed :) It was still showing as Google when I posted earlier.

So, it looks like Wendy scooped it. Good for her :)
