Sweating The Small Stuff

Lost In Thought

It wasn’t a good morning. It seemed like every direction I turned I ran into another roadblock. My frustration level was at an all-time high.

I spilled coffee down the front of me, the neighbor’s bass was pounding in my head, my Internet connection was burping, and the batteries for the mouse died with a few thousand emails yet to be read. All of the right ingredients for a really bad day, right?

I headed over to Facebook to chill for a moment or two.

Scrolling down through my news feed, I came across a father talking about his 15 year old daughter. They were preparing to return to Children’s Hospital for chemo and a follow up MRI. They were praying for shrinkage. They were told to expect growth…

My heart fell as the tears began to roll down my cheeks.

How could I possibly get hung up on sweating the small stuff?

I wonder how many people suddenly found perspective in life again as they read this father’s Facebook update?

I wonder if he knows how many lives he touched….

Excellent thought for the day, Cricket! Indeed, EVERY day! No matter how bad we think things are for us, there are thousands more out there that have it a lot worse!

My Dad had a plaque on the wall in his office:

“I used to feel sorry for myself because I had no shoes…
until I saw a man that had no feet.”

I need to have that plaque as a daily reminder.

It’s very true! I used to always complain small stuff but then when I went to visit some cancer hospitals, I came to realise that my life is already much better than so many people.

Even for children who deserve a bright future, some do not have a normal family.

That’s why every day now I feel thankful to what I have been given.

There’s no better way to start the day than to get away from the small things – work, email, facebook, neighbors… I love to run first thing to clear my mind and prepare for the day. It’s amazing how much of a difference that can make.
