Shift In Google Algo – Free Porn

SEOBlackhat has an interesting post on porn.

Not “interesting” because of the subject matter, but interesting because of a change he has spotted in the Google algo, a change that may have happened over the last weekend. There’s probably a lesson in here for other verticals as well.

Have a read. Many sites dropped out of the top ten for obvious keyword terms.

Google may be seeking more qualification from the searcher in terms of their intent. If this change extends to other areas, the lesson for SEOs is to really understand what the customer wants, and go wide on keyword terms by publishing semantic variations – a sound approach, regardless.

While the top 10 results may be different, the ads still know what you’re looking for. Thanks for posting this. I don’t think I’ll be doing the same but It is an interesting read, and possibly a positive move for the internet as a whole. Kind of a censorship without censorship type move. I like it.

ok, it’s been two minutes and I’m thinking things. I bounec it off my wife and she makes a good point. All of the examples that blackhatseo pointed out… if someone is searching those topics, then they are asking for porn. Maybe this isn’t such a logical change. I would like to see others opinions though.

    True.

I wonder if this is a side effect of something else going on?

    Same here.

I could see an action against something like Child pornography, but that didn’t come up in the article and I’m not about to test the search results.
