“How can you squander even one more day not taking advantage of the greatest shifts of our generation? How dare you settle for less when the world has made it so easy for you to be remarkable?” Seth Godin

Belgium 2, Google Nil

Google have relented.

Take a look at Google.be. Google have published the court order that forbids them to reproduce snippets of Belgian press on Google News.

In the original judgment, the court ordered Google to publish the full judgment on its site. Google didn’t fancy that muchi, whining that the publicity the case had attracted rendered it unneccesary…an appeal against the 5 September decision was rejected. Google would be fined €500,000 for each day the judgment goes unpublished.

The appeal is set for November.

Seems like Belgium can’t distinguish between publicity and theft. The stories on Google news link back to the sites of the original news carriers. If they don’t want their sites crawled they can just acitivate the robots.txt
