GoogleInsertServiceHere.com Registrations

Peter Da Vanzo

Amusing summary of a court case: Google Inc. v. Jennifer Burns, which should be of interest to those who own domain names that include the trade-marked term “Google”. Ms Burns registered googlecheckout.com, googlematching.com and googleoutdoors.com.

Her reasoning was “….intended business name is not “GOOGLE Checkout,” which ostensibly is identical to the disputed domain name , but rather the term “Go Ogle Checkout,” which Respondent contends is not. She intends to use this term in conjunction with an online dating service.”

Heh. Needless to say, the court didn’t buy it, and found in favour of Google.
