I've had some issues with the toolbar and tried to restore the original settings and it's not real user friendly.

That's strange. I finally got around to installing the Google toolbar a few weeks ago--and for some reason it set my default search engine in Firefox to . . . nothing. I always had to choose Google to search from my browser search box. It stayed like that for a few days before I got too annoyed and uninstalled the Google toolbar. Apparently this "feature" didn't work so well for me.
