Paul Boutin feels that Google would be mad not to pursue a Google OS.
Hmmmm…..if an OS is in the works, I think they’d be mad to pitch it as an operating system. That would invite direct comparisons with Windows.
Instead, I can see Google extending the functionality of Google Desktop. You’ll have a spreadsheet widget, and a word processor widget, a file store widget, a workspace widget, and various other functions that could be served remotely. Before you know it, you’ve got an application layer that sits on top of your OS. The local OS can talk to the hardware, but all the valuable stuff is being done one layer above that.
