New .pdf from Google research on the topic of real-time ambient audio identification, and how that applies to social television.

Bit of a mouthful, eh.

Essentially, a laptop microphone would pickup the sound of a tv program, and the Google system could identify that program based on a few seconds of audio. Users could then find other users interested in the same television program, and discuss it, or network, or interact.
