Google Payment System: Gbuy
According to Forbes, Google will introduce a payment system on June 28th:
Curious bit:
“On its core search results pages, Google will designate each merchant accepting GBuy as a “trusted GBuy merchant.” If consumers view this as a mark of safety and security, Rohan believes this should increase click-through rate“
It remains to be seen if this eventuates, but if it does, it will shake up e-commerce affiliate sites big time. If you’re not transacting through Google, you may not feature as prominently in the serps.
Perhaps this is also a way for Google to get hold of the oh-so-valuable conversion data. Merchants may have been reluctant to give this data up in the past, but will they do it for a “trusted by Google” logo? Will giving up the data earn you a higher place in the serps, because you now have more quality indicators?
Very interesting…

It’s a little disturbing to think that at some point they will control the entire chain within it’s advertising medium. Think about it, advertise with adwords, publish through adsense, and get paid through gpay…or whatever.
Little bit too much control for my taste. I have a feeling that if they end up taking it this far then they will just end up hurting themselves. Of course, they are the G and they obviously know what htey are doing.

Might be a little too much for a lot of people. Then again, if there is a higher return, then webmasters will do it.
It will be interesting to see what shape it will take, eh.

[...] In other Google news, Adsense was down in the weekend, leading many to suspect that new features are imminent. Features such as, say, cost per action? Or a payments system? Or maybe Adsense was just down for maintenance, but that would be boring [...]

G wants to be everywhere, or simply they don’t want to put all of their eggs in one basket (Adwords).
