Geeks And Weight Loss

I’ve seen a few prominent geeks blogging about their weight loss activities. It’s not very interesting, but it is amusing.

Given that there is only one way to lose weight – burn more calories than you take in – why the need for all the complexity? Spreadsheets?

Surely, part of the problem is that they’re sitting in front of a computer all day, creating spreadsheets.

Rule one should be: Don’t create a spreadsheet. Leave the PC, go outside and walk around the block a few times. Repeat whenever the urge to create a dieting spreadsheet strikes. 😉

    I smiled when I read your post… but –

For some people (even those who sit before a keyboard all day) tracking what they eat and how much they exercise actually helps.

Yes, eating less and exercising more is ‘easy’, both to do and to understand – but since when have the majority of human beings behaved logically? How else to explain why, in the richest economy in the world, all those ‘logical’ people are becoming increasingly obese?

Surely, a better approach would be to increase the effort involved in using a keyboard, so that creating a weight-loss spreadsheet would double as a reasonable workout?

    Just a thought.
