Google Base And Why Aggregation Sites Will Be In The Firing Line

Google Base is quietly being integrated into Google’s main results. Needless to say, it is not being displayed on page 3, result number 27.

This should be of concern to anyone who aggegates data and adds little value in the process. Google Base provides real estate listings search, classifieds, and they’ve recently been spotted providing auto listings, too. Google won’t stop there. It’s going to be difficult to compete in those spaces when the number one “listing” is a search box.

Then again, if you can’t beat ’em, join em. As well as publishing data on your own site, you could also load your stuff into Google Base, too.

I considered jumping aboard the Spam Base bandwagon. I even have a note to myself here – “Spam Google Base”.

But ultimately I decided it wasn’t worth he effort as a long term strategy. The energy put into creating Google Base listings might be justified if Google Base listings lasted longer than they do, but from what I saw they expire in a matter of weeks.

This is one of the few times I think Google is goofing off.

It would appear that way, it does seem like a haven for spammers. Although, I might check it out and see what kind of results I receive.

Oh BTW, you might want to fix the link you have for the text Google Base, it goes to an invalid url.

    It should read http://base.google.com
